FESTIVAL 2006 -
THE ARTISTS |
le 27 : SINTI SWING quartet
In the footsteps of Django
Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, the Sinti Swing Quartet led by Sébastien
Félix and John Intrator also includes Youri Félix and Bernard Chalon.
The true manouche spirit
and swing are ever-present, as well in the classic numbers as in the group’s own
original work.
In 2004, as a guest of
Nuages de Swing, Sébastien Félix was a great favourite of the public in Serres.
He is intent on not disappointing us this year. |
le 28 : Sylvia VERSINI octet
The
year 2005 saw the advent of numerous female talents in the world of jazz in
France. Sylvia Versini, conducting her octet, which she manages to make sound
like a big band, is a prime example of this.
Her original compositions
remind us of Charlie Mingus as well as of Carla Bley.
She conducts her groupe -
sometimes as light as a fairie and at other times as a real brass controller -
with a grace and an energy which add a surprising visual dimension to her music.
|
le 29 : DOODLIN’
Three female singers with a
guitar and a kazeo, a rhytmical (paino, bass, drums), and a trumpet, and off we
are for a swirl in the swinging fourties.
Their work is inspired by
the blues, boogie woogie, and of course, jazz, which they interpret with talent,
warmth and humour.
No surprise then that the
group is called after one of the most famous compositions of the great pianist,
Horace Silver. |
le 30 : BIG BAND de GAP
The musicians of the 05,
the Département des Hautes Alpes, take centre stage for a public concert on the
Place du Lac. The Big Band de Gap will be directed by Pierre Escolle.
The big orchestra mixes
pupils of the music school as well as professional musicians, thus combining
experience and dash. |
du 22 au 30 : CABU in Jazz
CABU, the father of Grand
Duduche, is a sketcher who is equally fascinated by jazz.
Fourty of his drawings
extracted from his book CABU in Jazz are shown at the Office du Tourisme from 22
to 30 July.
CABU catches the world of
jazz, musicians, clubs, festivals, and the audience with humour, tenderness and
often a dose of nostalgia. |
