Spain is an enchanting, almost bewitching country for composers, whether they are jazz-or classical -oriented. Their flamboyant music originates as well from inspiration as from dreamed or lived experiences, such as the compositions by Chick Corea…
All have been as overwhelmed by this imaginary of colours, of fragrances, of sounds…And even those who, like Bizet, never set foot in Spain, cannot remain indifferent. Isn’t Carmen one of the most Spanish operas of all times?
And so we will travel with them, through them, thanks to them. We’ll travel also in time, for Spain sets its roots down as early as during the Renaissance, with popular melodies which are at the origin of a folklore that made the whole of Europe dance and is well worth re-discovering. And then there is of course South America, where le Habanera becomes the tango! The tango that Piazzola made his in a manner that is unique to himself.
This evening is a challenge, in a way, as none of the music played at the concert is planned for the four musicians playing, for a quatuor such as this one (Cello, Guitar, Marimba/Percussion, Piano) has but a small repertoire to choose from…But not to worry, their artistic sensibilities will become joined: they love this meeting of different universes, the delicate fusion of genres, this cuisine of sound! And they will create all this before us, sometimes even by prompting us, and take us through all the forms the music offers them (written pieces, improvisations, arrangements,…). Each of them contributes to this “creation of the instant” all the richness of his own journey (jazz, classique, ancient music,…)
